A former leading fashion model, almost 5'10'' in height, Carey was a favorite with top American fashion designers like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. In 1979 the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists voted her father Scientist of The Year. Carey was a frequent traveler due to her father's work. When she finished her studies at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she started to model on the side. The idea caught the attention of a Ford Model Agency New York. Following her move to France and briefly resided at Paris, Bordeaux and New York and then New York, she made the decision that she would return in New York and continue her studies. In the next few months, Vogue, Glamour and other magazines were featured on their cover. In between modeling assignments she also studied literary studies full-time in New York University. Then she became interested in acting and began training in the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. In 1986, she got her first performance, a bit part in Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. She spends her free time ski, white-water rafting wind-surfing and climbing rocks.
